"dis/connect" 2021

Glass paint and acrylic on acrylic sheet, 3D Soft sculpture and modelling, fabric, wood base, and nylon thread.

Dolls are arm length size min., A3 size frame and base

From finding a place to belong and finding what was lost, this now escalates to focus ‘missing home’ but there will always be a way to connect with them again.

There are those whose family members start their own career or path in life and leave the nest. While there are those who are left behind to hold the fort or simply watch them grow.

These dolls represent a person with their own lives to cope and live. Most would focus more on their careers, while there are others that balance between job and family.

Despite the sad reality that there are those that can’t come home easily under these circumstances, we’ve already been given hope to connect with people again through social media.

Just a click or phone call away, it’s as if they’ve never lost touch from the beginning. As time goes on, whatever happens in the future, we continue to innovate for more ways to stay connected.

CEDIO

This map is a fusion of the Cebu Map from the Philippines and the section of the 2D Painting side in the Skylight Studio.

Coincidentally, the layout floor plan within the studio matches perfectly with the highlighted spots in Cebu in order to put the dolls in their places. The highlighted spots are the areas/destinations in which I often frequent or always go to.

the first letter of each spot is the initial of my Classmate's name

while the second letter is the initial of the places in Cebu where I have been...

O.n.

"O" stands for my classmate's  name

"n" stands for Naga, a city in Cebu, where I can visit my other friends for a chat by the bay walk. The further you go south, the closer you get to nature.

M.m.

"M" stands for me

"m" stands for Minglanilla, where I lived.

So, it only makes sense that the main base is where my home is within the installation.
